At Littleover Learning Hub we can provide a formal Dyslexia screening that can be used in school to identify areas of need.

The screening is booked at a separate time to a normal teaching session and is carried out on a 1-2-1 basis. Dyslexia screenings are available to all children over 7 years of age. They do not need to be a Littleover Lerning Hub student to access this resource. The screening takes about ½ hour and is FREE of charge.

There are so many elements to becoming a proficient English language user, from phonics (sounds) and their corresponding grapheme (letter), word blending, sight words, punctuation, reading for meaning (comprehension). Then, when it comes to writing it all down, students need to engage their hand-eye co-ordination to form letters, whilst thinking about the purpose of their writing, constructing varied sentences with adjectives, adverbs, clauses (and sub-ordinate clauses!), ensuring they have verb and verb tense agreement, spelling and punctuation. The skills required can be a minefield, and many children have difficulties grasping these concepts.

It is no surprise that learning to become a proficient writer can be challenging and some children find elements of writing particularly difficult. Sometimes there may be a specific learning difficulty which is preventing a student from making the progress we would usually expect.

If you think your child could benefit from a formal Dyslexia screening, please get in touch.
